Countertop Square Footage Calculator
Add each counter in inches and get your square feet. It is a rough number for planning, with no prices and no signup.
How to Measure Your Countertops
You only need a tape measure. Write every number in inches.
Straight Counters
- Measure the length along the wall, end to end.
- Measure the depth, from the wall to the front edge.
- Enter each straight run as its own piece.
L Shapes and Islands
- Split an L into two pieces. Measure one leg full length, and take the depth of the first off the second, so the corner is not counted twice.
- Measure an island or a bar as its own piece, including any overhang.
The Math
- Length times depth, divided by 144, gives square feet.
- A counter 120 inches long and 25 inches deep: 120 × 25 = 3,000, and 3,000 ÷ 144 = 20.8 square feet.
- Sink and cooktop cutouts are not taken out. That keeps the number on the safe side.
Close Is Good Enough
You do not need perfect numbers. Before anything is cut, Fernando builds a wooden template right on your cabinets, so your stone is cut to the real shape of your kitchen, crooked walls and all.
Countertop prices are usually quoted per square foot, so this is the number to have when you compare quotes. The stone, the edge, sink and cooktop cutouts, and a backsplash all change the final price. Our countertop cost guide lists Florida prices per square foot from an industry pricing guide, and your free estimate gives you the real number for your kitchen.
