How Much Do Countertops Cost in Tallahassee?
Florida installed prices per square foot for granite, quartz, quartzite and marble, what raises the price, what quotes often leave out, and how to compare them fairly.
“How much will it cost?” is the question we hear more than any other. It is a fair question, and many countertop websites do not answer it. We will give you real numbers here, with where they come from, and then explain why your own price can only come from looking at your kitchen.
Florida Prices per Square Foot
The most current Florida numbers we have found come from SlabWise, a company that makes software for countertop shops. They updated their Florida cost guide on July 10, 2026. These are installed prices, per square foot:
| Stone | Low | Typical | High |
|---|---|---|---|
| Granite | $50 | $75 | $130 |
| Quartz | $55 | $85 | $140 |
| Quartzite | $65 | $100 | $180 |
| Marble | $75 | $120 | $200 |
| Premium or exotic quartzite | $120 | $175 | $250 and up |
A few things stand out:
- Granite and quartz overlap a lot. Choosing between them is rarely about price alone.
- Quartzite and marble cost more, and rare quartzite can cost a lot more.
- The range inside each stone is wide. A common granite and a rare one can be far apart.
What a Typical Kitchen Costs
SlabWise says “The statewide median installed cost for quartz and granite, the two most popular materials, runs about $65 to $90 per square foot all-in.” It adds that “A 45-square-foot kitchen, close to the Florida average for a single-family home, comes out to $2,925 to $4,050 before any add-ons.”
So for a mid-size Florida kitchen in granite or quartz, a few thousand dollars is a realistic starting point, before edges, removal and other extras.
Is Tallahassee Cheaper or More Expensive?
There is no Tallahassee-only price study we trust, so we will not make one up. SlabWise says “The Panhandle and rural Central Florida run a bit lower” than the state as a whole, “though material trucking costs eat into some of that savings.”
What does change prices here is the age of the homes. About half of Tallahassee’s homes were built before 1990, according to the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2024 American Community Survey. In older homes, walls are rarely straight, which is why a careful template matters as much as the price per square foot.
What Raises the Price
The stone itself. This is the biggest one. See the table above.
The size. More square feet, more stone. Islands and long runs add up.
Edges. SlabWise says “An eased or beveled edge is usually included.” An ogee, waterfall or stacked edge “adds $15 to $40 per linear foot on top of the base price,” and “A full waterfall island with mitered corners might add $400 to $900 to the job.” You can see every edge style we offer in our guide to choosing countertops.
Removing old countertops. SlabWise says removal “is almost never in the base quote” and to “Expect $150 to $400 for demo and haul-away depending on kitchen size and what’s coming out.”
Backsplash. A short stone backsplash, full height stone or tile each price differently.
What Quotes Often Leave Out
SlabWise lists things a quote often does not include, starting with “demolition and haul-away of the old top” and “plumbing disconnection and reconnection.” It notes you typically need a licensed plumber in Florida for that part.
That is true with us too: we mount the sink, but we do not connect water lines, gas or electrical. Your plumber hooks up the water. We do remove and haul away your old countertops. Very heavy old tops, like concrete or tile, cost extra, but that is rare.
How to Compare Quotes Fairly
Two quotes can look far apart and be for different jobs. Before you compare, make sure each one answers the same questions:
- How many square feet, and which exact stone?
- Which edge?
- How many sink and cooktop cutouts?
- Is a backsplash included, and what kind?
- Is removal of the old tops included?
- Is natural stone sealed before install?
- Who measures, and how? A wooden template, or a quick measurement?
- Who does the install?
- Where will the seams go?
- What does the written agreement say?
Careful measuring is part of what you pay for, so ask about it, not only about the price.
