A Furniture Top Has to Fit the Piece Under It

A stone top for a table, dresser or buffet follows the shape of that one piece: a round table, a scalloped edge, a bar that curves. There is no standard size to order.

Fernando measures your piece and cuts the stone to fit it, with the same care he gives a kitchen. He does the cutting himself and never subs the work out.

Which Stone Suits a Furniture Top?

Where It Shines

  • Natural stone, so every top is one of a kind.
  • Granite is typically heat resistant up to about 480 degrees Fahrenheit, according to the Natural Stone Institute.

What to Know

  • On marble, acids like lemon juice and vinegar can dull or etch the finish, the Natural Stone Institute says. Coasters keep drinks off the stone.
  • The same group recommends trivets or mats under hot dishes.
  • Clean it with a neutral cleaner, stone soap or mild dish soap and warm water.

Can you put a stone top on my dresser or table?

Yes. We cut stone tops for dressers, tables and other furniture, measured to fit the piece.

Can you cut a top to an unusual shape?

Yes. The scalloped top on the round table and the rounded bar top in the photos on this page are both pieces Fernando cut to follow the furniture under them.

Will a marble table top scratch?

Italian marble can. Our own stone comparison sheet rates it about 3 on the Mohs hardness scale and says it "cuts like butter." Dolomite marble, like Fantasy Brown, is almost as hard as granite. Coasters and placemats help with either one.
