Granite Countertops in Tallahassee

Fernando, the owner, measures, templates and installs every granite job himself.

Why Granite Needs a Perfect Template in an Older House

About half of Tallahassee’s homes were built before 1990 (U.S. Census Bureau, 2024 American Community Survey), and as Greylynne puts it, there are no straight walls or 90 degree angles in any kitchen they have seen.

Granite cannot be stretched once it is cut, so a top cut from a quick measurement leaves gaps against the wall. Fernando builds a wooden template against your real walls first, so the stone fits.

Is Granite Right for You?

Where It Shines

  • Natural stone, so every slab is one of a kind.
  • Typically heat resistant up to about 480 degrees Fahrenheit, according to the Natural Stone Institute.
  • Most granite countertops do not need to be sealed, the Natural Stone Institute says.

What to Know

  • The same group discourages direct, localized heat, and recommends trivets or mats for stone.
  • Sealing with a quality sealer still often makes sense.
  • Clean it with a neutral cleaner, stone soap or mild dish soap and warm water.

Fernando will guide you through choosing and tell you honestly which one fits your home.

Questions We Hear

Does granite need to be sealed?

We seal every natural stone slab before we install it, with a sealer that soaks into the stone to help it resist stains. The Natural Stone Institute says most granite does not strictly need sealing, but that in many cases it makes sense.

Can I put a hot pan on granite?

The Natural Stone Institute says granite is typically heat resistant up to about 480 degrees Fahrenheit, but it discourages direct, localized heat and recommends trivets or mats for stone. A trivet is the safe habit.

How do I clean granite countertops?

The Natural Stone Institute recommends a neutral cleaner, stone soap, or a mild dish soap and warm water.

What should I do about a stain on natural stone?

Call us first, so we can tell you what the stone and the stain need. For oil stains, the Natural Stone Institute describes a poultice made with baking soda and water, left to dry for about 24 to 48 hours.

Which countertop stone is the most durable?

It depends on what you mean by durable. For scratches, our own stone comparison sheet rates quartzite the hardest, 7 or more on the Mohs hardness scale, ahead of granite at 6 to 7. Granite has the highest published heat tolerance, about 480 degrees Fahrenheit (Natural Stone Institute). Quartz resists stains best because it is nonporous, but its resin makes it the most sensitive to heat. Marble is the softest and the most sensitive to acid. Our stone guide compares all four.
